Aims: To survey the sexual attitude among junior high school students in Taoyuan county, explore the correlation between subscales of sexual attitude, and examine the relationship of school year, gender, academic ranking, parents’ education, how parents raised their kids, family cohabitation, sexual knowledge, and sex experience on the subscales of sexual attitude . Method: To use multi-stage cluster proportional sampling to obtain the sample and an anonymous questionnaire was used. During September and October, 2005, 964 records with a 95.6% response rate were obtained. Results: Among 5 subscales of sexual attitude, sexual education and contraception received the highest score. The attitude subscale of premarital sexual behavior and sexual ethnic was positive correlated; premarital sexual behavior and sexual education was negative correlated. School year, having sex experience and gender were significant factors for attitude of premarital sexual behavior, sexual ethic and sexual education. Gender, sexual knowledge, family cohabitation and academic ranking were significant factors for attitude of inter-personal relation. Sexual knowledge and academic ranking were significant factors for sexual attitude of contraception. Conclusions and suggestions: The attitude of sexual education and contraception was highly acceptable in junior high students. Gender was the important factor for the attitude of premarital sexual behavior, sexual ethic, inter-personal relation and sexual education. School year was important for the attitude of premarital sexual behavior, sexual ethic and sexual education. Academic ranking was important for the attitude of contraception and inter-personal relation. Have sex experience was significantly associated with the attitude of premarital sexual behavior, sexual ethic and sexual education. Sexual knowledge was important for the attitude of inter-personal relation and contraception. We suggest that sexual education should be continued and enforced in junior high students. In order to provoke the students’ interest, sexual education can start with a topic about how to make or get along with boy/girl friend. Contents and teaching methods should be diversified along with the school year. Consultation for sexual issues, such as relevant website or channel for discussion, should be encouraged. |
