Experiential learning is more vivid and impressive than didactic teaching. The effect of implementing experiential learning in communication skills learning in Taiwan has not been fully researched. This study aimed to explore the effect and related phenomena of experiential learning from the data of physician-patient communication training workshops. We collected learners' feedback questionnaires, workshop leader's notes, and observer' notes of four workshops in one hospital in Northern Taiwan. The data was subjected to quantitative and qualitative analysis. The results indicated that experiential learning enhanced knowledge, skill and affection of communication, and the characteristic of learners and activities may influence the effect of the training. We suggest that the design of experiential learning activities should be modified according to the learners' characteristic to improve the effect of training. |
