Objective:The social distance scale is an important index in stigma studies. In this study, a Rasch analysis was used to evaluate the social distance scale in patients with schizophrenia. Method:A questionnaire with eight items was used to measure the social distance in patients with schizophrenia. A total of 348 college students participated this study. Results:Based on the classic testing theory, the social distance scale had good reliability and construct validity. Under the Rasch analysis, we found that most items were fitted to the model’s expectations. It showed that these eight items assessed a single and unidimensional construct and that item with moderate social distance was item 4 (having a meal). Conclusion: Based on the contact theory, we suggest that an interpersonal contact related anti- stigma program can be developed to reduce our social distance to patients with schizophrenia. |
