Mrs. Chen, Hsiu-Si has passed away for twenty five years. There are more and more scholars studying her poems and literature in order to remember the moves or interesting behavior of “Aunt Chen” (Please refer to Year 1978 in the chronicle to find the origin of this title). Her divorce at fifty-eight age amazed people the most. This made a hit national-wide at that time. It happened even earlier than the divorce rush of Japanese retired couples. However, after seven years of her divorce, she married again when she was in age 65. It surprised the public once more! Unexpectedly, she divorced again in the same year and the marriage only lasted for 269 days. It was unbelievable and she even litigated due to this remarriage. In short, her elderly life was full of surprises. Behind these surprises were endless tears and helplessness. This was also the main point discussed in the thesis. There were limited literatures and works discussing her poetry (within 10 works based on the author’s investigation). The works discussing her families and marriages were even fewer. The study discussed in five aspects below: (1)Introduced Hsiu-Si Chen’s life and her poetry in the chronicle. (2)Described her remarriage life with Ching-Hui Yen: Her remarriage is a rush and reckless decision under pressure; therefore, the study investigated the remarriage in the following aspects: 1.The reason why she married again 2.Introduction of her husband, Ching-Hui Yen 3.Their remarriage life (3)The causes of their marriage lawsuit (4)If Hsiu-Si Chen was greedy for money? (5)What was Hsiu-Si Chen’s speechless suffering? The item (4) above was to investigate why her husband accused her of greediness. This study intended to emphasize that Hsiu-Si Chen kept her faith from the beginning to the end. She was considerate of everyone and even selfless. This style also could be found in her poems. No wonder she had to suffer those pains in her life. |
