Facilitated communication (FC) was officially not recommended for use in clinical practice by the International Society of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (ISAAC) in 2014. Based on the experience gained attending a workshop for facilitators at Syracuse University, the authors proposed five issues for further consideration: whether FC is a form of AAC or a kind of coaching method, authorship of message, the roles of the facilitator, when if FC should be selected, and if FC is a viable option for services in special education. |
