On the Life and Family of Li Zhizao

李之藻與徐光啟、楊廷筠共稱「中國天主教三柱石」，在晚明時期的中西交通史上扮演了重要角色。長期以來，關於李之藻的生平事蹟、家世淵源以及後裔的考究，幾乎完全依賴方豪先生的名作《李之藻研究》，最近始有更多進展。本文主要就李之藻的先世、生年、科第、遊宦事蹟補充史料，辨析舊說，同時勾稽仁和李氏十代世系，附考其子次影、孫禧熊、玄孫庚星傳略，為將來的深入研究拓展基礎。

Li Zhizao was a key figure in the history of Sino-Western communication in the late Ming Dynasty, and together with Xu Guangqi and Yang Tingyun, he was considered one of the famous 'Three Pillars of Chinese Catholicism.” Since it appeared in 1966, Rev. Maurus Fang Hao's A Study on Li Chih-Tsao has been the definitive source of information on Li's life and family. This article examines additional materials and ideas about Li's date of birth, family history, civil service examinations, career as a government official, and ancestors and descendants. I trace ten generations of Li's family tree and research the biographies of Li's second son, Cibin, grandson Xixiong, and great-great grandson Gengxing. This paper will pave the way for further study of Li's life and family.
