Daoism played a distinctive role in Europe of 19th and 20th centuries. Its aurora appealed to many German sinologists and literary writers. Alfred Döblin, an anarchist and one of the famous German Expressionist writers, absorbed the Idea of Daoism and thus created his utopian masterpiece Die drei Sprünge des Wang-lun. In this paper, Döblin’s presents a political Utopia which seeks to integrate the ideas of Daoism and Anarchism and to show the change of forms of life in the West brought about by Daoism as its main themes. |
