As Gilles Deleuze once said in Masochism, Coldness and Cruelty, Sade’s and Masoch’s works should not be seen as “pornography”, but at a higher level as “pornology”, because their erotic languages possess not only the elementary functions of ordering and describing, but also a higher function of an impersonal language. This language seems to have a close link to the conception of deformed laws. Drawing upon this observation, this paper analyzes Sade’s and Masoch’s impersonal erotic language and purports to resolve the paradoxical relation between laws and sadism-masochism. |
