"Asia" in the works of Duras does not represent Indochina "as it is," now Vietnam, where the writer actually lived until the age of 18. The different versions of "Durasie" constitute instead a web of conditions under which the "realities" are to be captured rather as modes of existence intertwining and superimposing between themselves as folds of spatial-temporalisation. The "reality" in Duras does not refer to an object of knowledge predetermined for a consciousness as totality, but to an instance of "void" which "serves" to fold the matrix of elements of singularity according to different settings of conditions. The present study will relate Duras' praxis of condition making of "realities" to Blanchot's idea of translation, as well as to Levinas' enquiry into the ethics of the "face" of the other. |
