The government of Malaya and thereafter Malaysia has regarded Communism its No.1 national enemy since the end of the Second World War. The tipping point occurred in 1989 when the Malaysian government and the Communist Party of Malaya (CPM) signed a peace agreement. Thereafter, CPM was just a word in Malaysian history, and many memoirs, histories and literary works on CMP have been published since then. Li Zishu is a renowned writer in Mahua literature. She has been greatly interested in reconstructing CPM history from the aesthetic perspective. This article studies Li Zishu's works of fiction on CPM and also probes her narrative modes on history. |
