Objectives: The purpose of this study was to understand the financial resources and managerial structure of private hospitals under current system, as well as the willingness for private hospital to transform into Medical Corporation Aggregate in order to provide suggestive data to the Medical Care Act which took effect recently. Methods: In the study, 14 private regional hospitals were selected to conduct in-depth interviews with the CEOs. Besides, a panel discussion was held, with 6 representatives, 2 scholars and 2 representatives from Association of Private Hospitals, to clarify the questions raised from the interviews. Findings: There were 12 hospital CEOs completed the interview. All hospital CEOs who were interviewed or participated in the panel discussion were willing to transform their hospital to Medical Corporation Aggregate hospital right after the amendment of the Medical Care Act was passed. Fifty eight percent of them further endorsed that the Corporation Law is applicable to the hospital industry. Conclusions: The traditional image of a private hospital being financiallysupported and controlled by a single doctor is no longer true. Many private hospitals are in the process of handing-over, facing more pressure of everlasting operation, but unwilling to donate their property to become foundation hospitals. Thus, the transformation of a private hospital to a Medical Corporation aggregate hospital is urgently demanded. |
