Objectives: The purpose of this study was to explore quality of work life (QWL) on hospital employees of a regional teaching hospital. Methods: Using stratified random sampling procedure, the survey data were collected by self-administered questionnaires from 500 employees working in a regional teaching hospital. Results: The mean of overall QWL was 3.19. Factor analysis revealed that 'job security', 'self-improvement', 'job variation', 'environmental support', 'welfare/reward', 'participating in decision making', 'promotion', 'social interaction' were major components of QWL; the components of QWL rating was highest for 'social interaction' and lowest for 'promotion'. To examine the personal characteristics revealed that gender, age, number of children, position, and appointment have significant association with QWL. Multiple regression analysis revealed that 'physician' and 'appointment' were the significant factors for QWL, which accounted for 15.6% of variance. Conclusions: the findings in this study suggest that management executives should adopt effective management strategies according employees' personal characteristics, pay attention to the welfare and promotion system, enhance employees' social interaction and create a healthy organization to improve employees' quality of work life. |
