The purpose of this project was to improve the medical material management in neurosurgical wards to provide the ward staffs and patients reasonable and available medical materials in high efficiency. Our investigation into the storage of medical materials in neurosurgical wards from Jan.8th to Jan.14th , 2001 showed that the medical materials were stored in higher quantities than those exactly required and were widely dispersed in the storerooms, nurse stations and treatment rooms. It was not convenient and easy for inventory. In this project, we re-estimated the basic quantities and re-standardized the locations of all items of medical materials. The results revealed reduction of their basic quantities stored, thus leading to reduction of their cost by 13%. The standardized locations enabled the ward administrators to accomplish inventory more accurately and more conveniently. 71% of staff-nurses commented this new project leding to better convenience, 96% appreciated more clear lables and 84% thought time-saving on the management of medical materials. This project was verififed to reduce the cost and enhance the efficiency and convenience of handling medical materials in the neurosurgical wards. |
