Pain is a subjective, emotional, and highly individual experience for people and patients. It is hard to be objectively measured. Different people have different pain perception and description words for their own pain experience. Pain would and had challenged every patient and caregiver in every hospital divisions regarding their age, gender, and disease diagnosis. Although modern medicine try to reduce most of the pain, the problem of insufficient pain relief still exist. This article describes how the nursing staff in one of the medical center in Taipei to deal with this important clinical issue, the fifth vital sign, pain. Correct and instant assessment, specific and evidence-based nursing pain care plan can provide a model which could effectively reduce pain greatly and toward the main goal of pain-free hospital. |
