In recent years, patient safety has become an important concern for the government, academic and healthcare industry. However, the current literatures on patient safety focus on study based on healthcare providers’ perspective rather than from the patients’ perspective. Therefore, this study will focus on patients' awareness and its influence on the compliance towards patient safety. In this study, a total of 300 questionnaires were given out to the patients in a hospital. A total of 215 questionnaires were completed, achieving a rate of 71.6% responses. The structural equation modeling (SEM) analysis showed that the measurement of self-developed tools and theoretical framework had good reliability, validity and fit criteria. The results showed that the patients’ understanding on medication safety, infection control, correct identification, prevention of falls, communication and privacy had direct and positive correlation to patient safety. The results also showed that patient’s understanding on patient safety had a direct and positive correlation to patient’s compliance to their safety. |
