Objectives: The enhancement of health literacy clearly represents a potential solution to the requirement for the overall elevation of health status; this study therefore sets out to analyze and discuss the relationships existing between health literacy, compliance behavior and the health status of pregnant women. Methods: We utilize the SF-12 health status instrument (Chinese version) in conjunction with a self-devised instrument designed to measure the level of health literacy amongst pregnant women. Our sample is selected from expectant mothers who had visited obstetrics and gynecology departments in six hospitals and three clinics, with a total of 388 completed questionnaires being collected for further data analysis. Results: Firstly, health literacy is found to have no significant correlation with the health status of pregnant women. Secondly, the higher the level of education, the lower the health status score and higher the health literacy score. Finally, we could find no evidence in this study of compliance behavior playing any mediating role in the relationship between health literacy and health status. |
