The purpose of this study was to explore care needs and discharge planning satisfaction at a regional hospital in Taiwan. Content validity by five experts, a self-constructed structural questionnaire with a Cronbach α of 0.96 is employed as a research tool. The data collection period spans from March 2007 to September 2007, during which a total of 321 cases accepted discharge planning services and were given their chosen needed caring services after discharge. A total of 304 respondents, or 94.7% response rate, responded their satisfaction levels via telephone interview thereafter. The results showed: 1. The respondents suffering CVA and head injury accept (statistically significantly) more medical transfer services than those with lung diseases. 2. Respondents who are taken care by caring institutions after discharge accept more nursing teaching services than those live with family members. 3. Respondents living with family members after discharge receive more medical transfer services than those staying with caring institutions. 4. Satisfaction are higher in respondents living with family members than those with caring institutions . 5. The more nursing teaching, medical transfer and social services are offered, the higher the satisfaction level. Conclusions: To improve caring quality and satisfaction, standard operating procedures of discharge planning should be established for patients who require extensive caring (such as those suffering CVA and head injury) and patients who are transferred to caring institutions after discharge. |
