Hospital accreditation is conducted once every three years. It consumes hospitals a lot of resources in terms of labor and materials. The incident which occurred to some hospitals was using paper-based documents couldn’t show the documents that commissioners would like to review right away. Besides, the criteria of new hospital accreditation are more complex and numerous than the old system, thus hospitals adopted hospital accreditation information systems (HAIS) to assist their preparation for accreditation. The purposes of this study are to understand the current situation about the adoption and utilization of HAIS, and to explore the factors affecting hospitals to adopt HAIS. The data collection was processed in two steps. First, the regional hospitals and medical centers were investigated to understand their current status of HAIS adoption. The results showed that there were 29 hospitals using HAIS. Then, three questionnaires were sent to each 29 hospitals for data collection. Seventy-five questionnaires (25 hospitals) were returned. The results displayed that there were around 1/3 of regional hospitals and medical centers using HAIS, and the main functions of HAIS were managing content of accreditation criteria and data/documents, authorizing priority, follow-up management of scheduling processes, and reporting. The top 5 factors affecting hospitals to adopt HAIS were executives support, ease of use of HAIS, executives’ participation provided in meeting and decisions, users’ participation, and training sessions of HAIS to users. |
