The project focuses on a group of long-term hemodialysis patients who failed to control their weight differences within the +5% of their dry weight. The main purpose for this project is to reduce internal water stock in order to improve patients’ weight control. In Nov 2000, we found that there were 68 out of 114 hemodialysis patients whose weight differences were more than 5% of their dry weight. The members of our quality control circle (QCC) analyzed the situation and developed the questionnaire based on possible standard reasons. We queried patients who have been receiving hemodialysis treatment for more than three months and were willing to cooperate with our investigation. We spoke with the patients one by one and received 88 examples of useful feedback. Next, we marked out the details of the project and put the project into practice according to the 80/20 theory. On Feb 2001, when we evaluated the results of the project we were very encouraged by the data we obtained. The number of patients who have bad weight control decreased from 68 (60%) to 40(35%). We believe that this project undoubtedly will help hemodialysis patients to improve their weight control. |
