This study resulted from the spoon-feed teaching used to school education recently. Under such an environment of education, students not only bear a lot of schoolwork but also can't experience the enjoyment of study. For this reason I am interested that if students' self-confidence in learning science and students' valuing science would be influenced by this phenomenon. Therefore this study analyzed the database of TIMSS 2003 eighth-graders of Taiwan. At first, the performance of these students in TIMSS 2003 would be analyzed in comparison with their self-confidence in learning science. Secondly, their valuing science would also be analyzed. The findings are as followed: 1. High-performance students tend to have higher self-confidence in learning science in comparison with low-performance students. 2. High-performance students tend to have higher valuing science in comparison with low-performance students. 3. The eighth-grade students seemed to agree with the statement ”I think learning science will help me in my daily life”. 4. The eighth-grade students seemed to disagree with the statement ”I would like a jobthat involved using science”. |
