The purpose of holding a formula student racing event through the SAE is to train students to be qualified engineers in the near future. The team consists of undergraduate and postgraduate students, who, together, will think up, design and manufacture a formula racing car. This article describes how the STUST formula student team made one. A 450c.c. single cylinder engine was adopted instead of the traditional 600c.c. four cylinder engine, creating a light-weight and powerful formula car. The car’s top gear was designed by following a theory of vehicle kinetics. The suspension includes both air and double-wishbone suspension, and the steering system employs Ackermann steering geometry. The chassis was designed based on an analysis of tortional strength and braking force. Marketing research of Taiwan racing events was done and the marketing strategy was designed based on the results. The STUST formula student team was divided into groups to accomplish these various tasks. |
