In medical organizations, nurses play multiple roles and take on significant Responsibilities in the coordination of integrated patient care. In a nursing management position, such as charge nurse, nurse supervisor, assistant director, or director of nursing, the individual must not only be knowledgeable and capable of practicing a nursing profession, but also be able to be fully accountable in business administration, such as customer services, human resources, quality control, medical equipment and supplies, hospital capital expenses, and medical information system. Throughout various departments of a hospital, experienced nurse leaders play multifaceted roles. The seminar, 'urses Play a Major Role in the Decision-Making of Hospital Affairs' was held in July 9, 2008, co-chaired by Mr. Jing-Wen Zhang, Vice-President of the Landseed Hospital, and Ms. Thai-Form Chen, Associate Professor, School of Nursing, the Evergreen University. The purpose of the seminar was to share (1) the nurses' experiences of playing a major role in the decision-making of hospital affairs, (2) the frontline nurses' perceptions about the nurse leader in the position of vice-president of the hospital, (3) if the nurse leader has a significant influence in the process of decision-making, (4) the difficulties the nurse leader in the position of vice-president encountered and the resolutions of those difficulties, (5) what leadership skills were necessary for the nurse to become the vice-present of the hospital, (6) if having a nurse leader hold the position of vice-president of a hospital will become a future trend, and (7) suggestions to those nurses who would be the decision-makers of the hospital. |
