The increase of Sino-foreign trades nowadays has aroused the urgent need for business Chinese teaching resources. To meet this need, the current study applied the ‘Wed as Corpus’ method to build a Web Business-Chinese Corpus (WBCC) by collecting a large number of online business Chinese texts. To learners of business Chinese, the correct use of Chinese collocations plays a crucial role in the success of Chinese learning. Hence, this study uploaded the WBCC onto the Intelligent Collocation Engine (ICE), which allows users to search for business Chinese collocations via the ICE tool. To show that the WBCC and the ICE indeed provide more business-related search outcomes than other Chinese corpora, this study compared the collocation information of 19 business-related nouns retrieved from the WBCC and the ICE with that from the Academia Sinica Balanced Corpus of Modern Chinese, and the results showed that information generated from WBCC and ICE was more related to business Chinese. For example, for the noun ‘shangpin’ (product), 19 verb collocates can be found in WBCC , whereas there is only one verb collocate found in the Academia Sinica Balanced Corpus of Modern Chinese. Findings of this study thus suggest that the WBCC and the ICE can serve as good business Chinese teaching resources. |
