Chinese education in Singapore has seen unprecedented changes and innovations over recent years, out of which the major move is the implementation of the so-called “Modular Curriculum” during 2006-2007. This paper reports an ongoing large scale publically funded research project which aims at comprehensively assessing the actual effectiveness of the aforementioned new curriculum. Apart from a discussion of some of major changes in Chinese language education that led to the introduction of the new curriculum, the focus of the paper is the description of the research methodologies employed in the project with aim at elaborating on what such a large-scale evaluative research can offer to the programs assessment of Chinese language education elsewhere in the world in terms its research framework, experience and more important, the research instruments developed in the Project. |
