National Research Institute of Chinese Medicine: A Brief Introduction

本所於1957年成立，第一任所長為李煥燊教授(1957~1977)，第二任所長為劉國柱先生(1977~1988)，第三任所長陳介甫自1988年接任至今。並於1995年爭取到立法通過含54位研究人員共99人之組織員額及於1996年完成36萬平方呎之兩棟傳統醫祭大樓。本所研究部門分為四組，即基礎醫學組、生藥組、禁物化學組、臨床組。另有資訊組（圖書館、中藥標本館、電腦中心、典藉整理、製圖、美工），及中藥品質管制及生物活性篩測兩中心。目前有研究人員24位，除從事生藥學及組織培養外，主要從事中藥化學成分之分離、鑑定及合成，以期發現作用於心血管、中樞神經、免疫系統、抗癌及抗病毒之藥物。也從事中藥成份毒性及藥物動力學之研究。並與其他機構合作從事氣、脈及中藥方劑監床療效之評估。將來工作重點為研究有關老化之問題，及從熱帶植物、海洋生物以開發藥用資源。

The National Research Institute of Chinese Medicine was created in 1957. Professor Huan-Yuug Lee was appointed as first director from 1957 to 1977. Mr Kwok-T sui Liu succeded Professor Lee from 1977 to 1988. Now, Professor Chieh-Fu Chen has been at that post since 1988. ”The Organization of the National Research Institute of Chinesc Medicine Bill”, with 99 full time positions which included 54 of researcher, was passed in the Legislative Yuan of the Republic of China in 1995. In July, 1996, two totally 360,000 square foot research building were completed after 3 years of construction. Beside Administration, our organization is composed of four Research Sections (Basic Chinese Medicine, Herbal Drugs and Pharmacognosy, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, and Clinical Chinese Medicine, an Information Section (Library, Herbal, Drugs Museum, Computer Information Center, Department for Compilation of Chinese Pharmacopeia, and Department of Arts and Graphics), a Herbal Drug Quality Control Center and a Biological Activities Screening Center. Constant endeavor on the tissue culture, pharmacognostic and phytochemical studies to isolate, and obtain bioactive components with potential affects on the cardiovascular, central nerves, and immune systems or with anticancer/antivirus activities have been performed in the Institute. The toxicology and pharmacokinetics of berbal drugs and its bioactive components were also studied. The herbal drugs, tropical plants, or marine products for the treatment of aging related diseases will be the main task in the years near at hand.
