The purpose of this study was to (1) test the influencing factor of functional performance, including age, disease severity, dyspnea, fatigue, exercise tolerance, negative mood, and health perception and (2) explore the math predictive factors of functional performance in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). A cross-sectional research design with a convenience sampling was used iii this study. There 138 subjects were obtained from one of medical teaching hospital in the north of Taiwan. The questionnaire investigation, 6-mintue-walk distance test, and chart review ere used to collect data that was then analyzed by LISERAL8.3 and SPSS 10.0 Window 5 version. The results of this study show most subjects in the middle level of difficult of functional performance, with the highest in spiritual activity, exercise, entertainment. The relationships show negative association between functional status and age, dyspnea, fatigue, negative emotions, but are positive association between functional performance and disease severity, exercise tolerance, health perception There is 60.9% of variance ill functional performance explained by the factors of exercise tolerance, negative mood, after-walking dyspnea, the number of diseases, and age. The math predictive factor is exercise tolerance. The finding of this study may provide the care information for clinical professional staffs, e.g. improving the functional performance of COPD patients from increasing exercise tolerance and soothing negative mode. |
