The aim of this project was to reduce the toddlers’ behavioural responses of fear during intravenous cannulation process, in order to decrease the treatment time and the tension between toddlers, parents and nurses. A self-designed questionnaire was used in this project, and it showed the average score of the toddlers’ behavioural responses of fear during intravenous cannulation process was 5.94. The problems included terrible past experience, limited injection posture, insufficient explanation or communication between children and parents, inadequate pediatric intravenous cannulation training for nurses, and unfriendly treatment room to children. These problems were improved by providing nursing continuous education, painting treatment room with Cartoon figure, paying attention to children autonomy and communication between parents and nurses. These improvements reduced the average score of the toddlers’ behavioral responses of fear during intravenous cannulation process from 5.94 to 2.9, and the average treatment time was reduced from 12.34 to 6.34 minute. |
