The article is about the nursing experience of a Japanese pregnant woman who suffered from cytomegalovirus infection at 10-week pregnancy. Fever and skin rash were the main manifestations. Due to the language barrier and concerns of her fetus being affected, the woman expressed a series of anxiety reactions at the emergency room. During the nursing period of April 17 to April 19 in 2008, the author collected information by four approaches, including direct nursing care, observation, interviews and translation aid from the woman’s husband. After the holistic assessment with caring theory in four major dimensions(physical, psychological, social and spiritual), the author found that she had the following problems, including nutritional imbalance, nutritional deficiency, discomfort and anxiety. Based on the essence of human caring in Watson theory, the trust relationship between the patient and the author was built through kindness and active greetings. With the use of pictures to provide illness-related information and nursing guide, the anxiety and trepidation were reduced and the cognition was enhanced, and her discomfort and tension were gradually reduced to calmness. Through this experience, the author wished to share this unique experience of nursing care of a foreign multipara at emergency room. |
