The purpose of this paper is to introduce the strategies of integration nursing theory, research and practice. The relationship between theory, practice and research is indeed very complex. Theory is born in practice, is refined in research, and must and can return to practice. The three needs to be strong and skilled, research with weak theory or practice with weak research would be the death-knell of nursing as a discipline. It is important to keep these three components closely and ensure that they interact appropriately, in order to promote nursing discipline. The author proposes four key strategies could used to provide solutions to integrate nursing theory, research and practice, and restrict the theory-practice gap: vocabulary and communication; model or theory based practice; development of middle range theory; and a new pedagogy for nursing curriculum. |
