In intensive care units, families' demands are easily overlooked when nurses are dedicated to nursing and medical care. For the purpose to release families' pressure and improve care skills, we encourage families to actively participate in care. We started by providing courses on care skills since 1990. However, it lacks efficacy due to insufficient contents, methods, aids and advertisement. According to a survey in 2001, family satisfaction was only 50.1%. To improve the satisfaction, we designed curricular contents together with improving teaching aids, methods, and devise checklists and guidelines. The teaching materials were then standardized. Finally, we achieved a satisfaction rate of 90.6%. Besides, the workload of nursing staff did not increase thanks to systemic and comprehensive plans on the course design. This renovation also helps promote the relationship between families and nurses. |
