The main purpose of this case report is to explore the experience of caring for a 55-yearold male patient with liver cancer over the pre and post operative period. The author used Gordon's eleven health functional types to evaluate and collect information. The results indicate that the patient had nursing problems including anxiety, deficiency of knowledge, potentially hazardous bleeding, potentially hazardous infection, impaired physical mobility, pain, sleep disturbance, etc. Due to the therapeutic relationship with the patient that was established during the period of providing nursing care, the individual requirements of the patient were specifically considered and assistance in relieving the anxiety of the patient before the operation was provided. Furthermore, mental support was provided opportunely and relevant information offered so that the patient was assured before the operation took place. After the operation, the nursing problems were acted upon as they occurred in order to improve the patient's wellbeing and the physiological functions of the patient were restored gradually. |
