The purpose of this study was to explore nurses’ health care information needs, information seeking and related factors. A crosssectional randomized survey was conducted in seven different health care institutions in Tainan. The questionnaires were given to 420 nurses and 367 responded. The results indicated: (1) Among information needs, the two with the highest mean values were“knowledge acquisition”and “client care”. The most frequently used means of information seeking were“using gopher”and“consulting colleagues”; (2)“information needs”,“competence in applying Internet information”,“organization”, “age”,“education level”and“in-service education”were predicting factors for information seeking behavior, which accounted for 51.8% of the total variance. The nurses expected to join teaching programs including the Internet and English database for upgrading their competence in applying Internet information. We anticipate that the fi ndings of this study will provide a reference for designing related inservice curriculums. |
