This article was to discuss the nursing experience during 1 January, 2002 to 12 January, 2002 of caring a patient who received toal hip replacement surgery for the first time. The authors assessed nursing problems using the 11-item Gordon Functional Health Measure after detailed observation, consultation and physical examination. The main nursing problems included deficit in knowledge, pain, dysfunction of physical activities, high-risk infection, and sleep disorder. During the process of nursing care, the authors firstly reviewed relevant literatures and academic information about total hip joint replacement surgery, then applied those useful nursing practices on patients. Furthermore, it is important to have good interaction with the patient’s family that was benefit to therapeutic and rehabilitational process to enable the patient’s adaptation. |
