Apart from the 3core symptoms of attention deficit, hyperactivity, and impulsivity, problems with emotional processing in children with attention deficit/ hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is also an important issue. However, it has not been fully investigated Based up on the 3 general facets of emotional competence (interpersonal of emotions , expression of emotions, and regulation of emotions) proposed by Saarni, the present article reviews recent findings on the emotional problems of children with ADHD. The problems mostly involve difficulties with identifying other’s emotions, awareness of one’s own emotions, understanding the emotional context, and regulation of frustrating emotions. Applied implications and future research directions are discussed. |
