This case study reported the nursing experience for a patient with the first diagnosed colon cancer during post operative period. The duration of nursing care by author was between March 15 and March 30, 2006. The Gordon functional health assessment guide was used to assess nursing problem through direct care, observation, and systematic interview, and physical assessment. Nursing problems included pain, anticipatory grieving, nutrition altered: less than body requirements, and disturbance body image. Nursing intervention programs included pain management, understanding of illness perception, dietary direction, and education of colostomy care. The patient finally accepted his body appearance and effectively adapted for illness cognition and performed self-care. This experience provided nursing staff with a reference for caring similar patients in the future. |
