This case study explored the experiences of a father of a child with cerebral palsy after discovering his child’s abnormality. Data were collected by four in-depth interviews at the case’s home from May 18, 2005 to June 18, 2005. This process was recorded and transcribed verbatim. Content analysis was adopted to analyze and categorize the data. The results revealed five categories in this study. They were: (1) discovering the child’s development deviated from the norm; (2) fear of the child being influenced by negative body image; (3) worrying about the child’s physical health; (4) fulfilling his responsibility to the father’s role, and (5) establishing father-child bonding relationship. The results of this study can provide health professionals with better understanding of the experience of a father of a child with multiple disabilities. |
