The execution of 24 hours rooming-in helps to the success of the breast feeding, and also increases mother’s competent of baby nurturing. Before the project, the 24-hour rooming-in rate in the study institute was only 12.8%, and influenced by the following factors: the uncertainty of rooming-in procedure; inconsistent implementation of the rooming-in procedure among nursing staff; lack of accurate information of rooming-in among postpartum mothers, family, and nursing staff; insufficient bed supplied and ineffective control in the ward environment. In order to increase the room-in rate to 20%, a five-solution scheme was proposed, including revision of rooming-in procedure, design and implementation of the continuous rooming-in education courses for nursing staff, provision of the information guideline for rooming-in, promotion of positive attitude toward rooming-in among mothers, and revision of the standard of environment control. After implementing the project, the rooming-in rate increased from 12.8% to 24.7%. The findings demonstrated an effective scheme of improving the rooming-in and breast feeding program and provided some indicators for evaluating the outcome of baby-friendly clinics. |
