Creativity and Mental Disorder

本文由文獻中回顧創造力與精神疾病的關係，不只了解過去至今的相關文獻，也有流行病學及理論的討論。在驗證性研究顯示有關本主題有方法學、定義與概念上困難。研究結果顯示精神分裂病、雙極性情感障礙疾病與創造力間相關，僅提供有限支持。精神分裂病的負性病徵有損創造力，雙極性情感障礙疾病與高創造力呈現正相關。許多藝術家與作家比一般人易受情感障礙疾病困擾。總之，證據支持創造力與精神疾病之間有某些關聯性，但相關原因的方向卻十分難解。

This article reviews literature on the relationships between creativity and mental disorder. This is not only to update the past literature but also to have an epidemiological and theoretical discussion. The empirical studies have methodological difficulties and numerous in definitions and concepts about the topic. The results of studies offer limited support for the proposition that schizophrenia and bipolar disorders are linked to creativity. The negative symptoms of schizophrenia limit creativity. Bipolar disorders are positively correlated with high creativity. Many artists and writers suffer from affective disorders than the general population. In conclusion, evidences support some links between creativity and mental disorder, but causal mechanism remains obscured.
