With changing social and familial structures, the rate of elders living in long-term care settings is increasing. Stresses and adjustment problems accompanied with the relocation process are important nursing issues. This case study applied Watson’s Transpersonal Caring theory. Data were collected by observation and interview. According to Watson’s theory, nursing assessment included physical, psychological, societal, spiritual, and environmental domains. The result indicated that the main nursing problem was relocation stress syndrome. Ten carative factors was adopted to guide nursing interventions. Through satisfying this elderly residen’s physical, psychological, spiritual, and social needs, the authors facilitated her to develop positive health behaviors and successfully cope with relocation stress. This nursing outcome showed the effectiveness of applying Watson’s theory in institutionalized elders. It is hoped that this article can provide some points of reference for human caring process. |
