This article reported the nursing experience of a patient with end-staged ovarian cancer who received care in June 2003. Data were collected by “Gordon 11 Functional Health Assessment tool” through observation and counseling. Results showed that the patient had nursing problems including self-care deficit, changing of comfort settings, such as acute pain, body image disturbance, and anticipatory grieving. After our nursing implementation with total and continuous evaluation and care, the patient was able to improve her self-care capability, self-autonomy, pain alleviation, quality of life, body function alteration acceptance, positive physical-mind image maintenance, spousal intimacy relationship strengthening, ability to say farewell to her loved ones, and ability to seek the meaning of life and face the reality of death. The authors would like to share this clinical experience with the colleagues to provide better care for this particular group of the patients in the near future. |
