The purpose of this project was to improve quality of care of rehabilitation exercise for patients receiving total knee replacement. Before this project was implemented, the results from a structured questionnaire and behavior observation sheet were as follows: 1) implementation rate of pre-operative health education was 5%; 2) the satisfaction of patient toward health educational tool was 3.3; 3) the accuracy rate of patients’ rehabilitation exercises on a daily basis was 54.28%; and 4) the satisfaction of acceptance of instruction regarding rehabilitation exercise was 3.89. In order to improve these figures, this project provided pre-operative health education and brochure and video regarding total knee replacement care to patients during June to December in 2002. Besides, nursing staff monitored accuracy of patients’ rehabilitation exercises on a daily basis to promote their effectiveness. The results revealed that 1) implementation rate of pre-operative health education was up to 100%; 2) the satisfaction of patient toward health educational tool increased to 4.57; 3) the accuracy rate of patients’ rehabilitation exercises on a daily basis raised to 94.66%; and 4) the satisfaction of acceptance of instruction regarding rehabilitation exercise increased to 4.47. Evidently, this project has significantly improved the quality of care of rehabilitation exercise for patients receiving total knee replacement. |
