In Taiwan, liver cancer is the first leading cause of death for men and the second for women. Many clinical studies have shown that liver cancer is associated with the hepatitis B virus, hepatitis C virus, alcohol drinking, aflatoxin, and parasitic infections. Surgical resection is the priority treatment for liver cancer. Alternatively, transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) is the second potion to treat liver cancer if the surgery is not possible. Patients treated with TACE may present both physical and psychological problems, such as anxiety, nausea, pain, hyperthermia, and high risk for injury. Therefore, it is important for the nurses to provide information about the procedures and possible adverse effects of the treatment to the patients and to ensure the patients receive comprehensive and quality cares. |
