Nurses need basic and advanced knowledge and skills to provide competent care for diverse and complex needs of patients with gastric cancer. Nursing care related to gastric cancer includes prevention, treatment, and hospice care. To help prevent gastric cancer, nurses must learn about the disease, counsel those at risk, and educate populations about protective actions. For the treatment of gastric cancer, nursing roles include listening to patients' concerns, addressing their fears, engaging in truth-telling, teaching and counseling patients, and encouraging them to seek regular medical care. Nurses also need to apply the latest research findings when giving care and use new knowledge to teach patients. Hospice takes the view that dying is part of the natural process of living. Nurses in hospice wards take the perspective that there is always hope and seek to promote quality in the remaining life. |
