This study was conducted to examine the rationale, equipments, and the preliminary clinical results of intensirty-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) technique. From Dec. 2001 to Sep. 2002, 52 patients received IMRT treatment for tumors over all sites of body, including curative and palliative intentions, and 45 cases were eligible for analysis. The clinical results revealed is as follows: (A)The non-operative group-CR:7, PR:13, SD:2, recurrence: 1, progression: 2, the effective rate is 88.0%. (B) The post-operative group-NED: 16, recurrence: 3, progression: 1, the effective rate is 80.0%. Only two patients developed grade Ⅲ acute toxicity. The sparing effect over the parotid gland and the skin of chest is prominent. Follow-up intervals were from one month to 13 months, and there are 35 patients who survive till now. Only one patient has grade Ⅱ xerostomia. The planning time and treatment time have now become shorter than the beginnint of this study. We conclude that IMRT technique is worthy to develop in the future setting. |
