Sebaceous carcinoma of the eyelid is a rare malignant tumor that originates from the meibomian gland or Zeis gland. It is very difficult to diagnose in the early stage because it is frequently misdiagnosed as chalazion or chronic conjunctivitis. We report a 50-year-old female who suffered from recurrent upper eyelid inflammation and sought aid at a local hospital many times. She received incision and drainage surgery several times for being diagnosed as hordeolum. In spite of repeated treatment, the symptoms still recurred and she visited us for further examination. Excision biopsy was done and the pathology showed sebaceous carcinoma of eyelid. She received a complete and wide tumor excision and reconstruction of upper eyelid with Cutler-Beard procedure. There was no any recurrence during a follow-up of 12 months. In this report, we also review the nature of eyelid sebaceous carcinoma, method of treatment, and procedures of eyelid reconstruction. |
