The growing elderly population as well as the chronic diseases have increased the demand of long-term care. The main caregivers in long-term care are nurse aides. Therefore, the job satisfaction among nurse aides will have significant impact on the performance of their works. Furthermore, the performance will influence on the quality of residential care. The purposes of this study were to examine the job satisfaction of nurse aides as well as the relations between characteristics of nurse aides, and their job satisfaction.This study was a cross-sectional study with individual nurse aides as the unit of analysis. Primary data collection was performed from 252 nurse aides as in 35 nursing homes, The response rate was 82.5%, with an effective sample size of 209. Descriptive and multivariate analyses were conducted to attain the research purposes. The higher education nurse aides had, the higher salary nurse aides received, and hence the more satisfied in job professionals, Gender, salary, age, and education are associated in different domains of job satisfaction.The distribution of nursing home in Kaohsiung is so uneven and so different from other areas in Taiwan. The factors that influence job satisfaction in nurse aides are also different from those in the international literature. Therefore, generalization of the results from Kaohsiung city to Taiwan should be more careful. |
