Insertion/deletion (I/D) polymorphism in angiotensin I converting enzyme (ACE) gene has been reports to associate with plasma and cellular ACE levels and to associate with risk for myocardial infarction, dilated, and hypertrophic cardio-myopathy. The ACE/DD genotype has recently been reported to associate with coronary artery disease, cerebrovascular disease, and early death from acute cerebral infarction. In this population association study, we compared the distribution of the ACE genotypes and allele frequency in 195 Han and 195 Bunun individuals categorized by age and sex. The frequencies of homozygous deletion (DD) genotype and deletion allele were greater on Bunun than in Han group (26.7 vs. 9.2 and 53.8 vs. 34.6, respectively), the differences were significant by x2 analysis (both P<0.001). The results indicated the genetic differences might contribute to the epidemiology. |
