Recently, Taiwan has been facilitating the practice of evidence-based nursing. However, resistance and several obstacles have made the process of implementation particularly challenging. A successful strategy to facilitate evidence-based nursing practice is establishing a nursing journal study club to enhance nurses’ ability to read nursing research articles with a critical eye and apply the learned knowledge in clinical practice to better their skills. Based on literature review, this article introduces the features, implementing principles, and structure of an evidence-based nursing journal study club (EBNJSC). The author describes a feasible model of EBNJSC that has been implemented in the nursing department. This model consists of a preparatory phase and three implementation stages: "from clinical situation to evidence-based problem", "evidence-based literature review" and "literature critiques and application". The model also includes additional critique and evaluation tools. The EBNJSC helps nurses become familiar with the process of practicing evidence-based nursing in the clinical problem-solving context. Furthermore, the team’s brainstorming and experience-sharing lowered their anxiety and fear of learning evidence-based nursing practice. |
