This article intends to explore the trend of foreign workers' disputes with respect to number of cases, proportion and probability. The data utilized are foreign workers' disputes records handled by New Taipei City over the period from January 2008 to June 2011. The methods adopted include frequency analysis and proportion distribution. The major findings are the following: The grand total cases of foreign workers' disputes are increasing but not the probability. The primary type of disputes is related to wage, whose proportion is increasing. Disputes related to family workers and in the manufacturing are two major types of industry, yet probability of disputes declines related to family workers while increasing in the manufacturing. Male consistently have a higher probability of disputes than female. With respect to source countries, Vietnamese always show the highest probability of disputes. The total cases and the cases in the manufacturing do not decline in 2010-2011 as expected. As for the effectiveness of governmental actions to prevent foreign workers' disputes result in declining contract disputes, problems of intermediary agency, probability of disputes related to family foreign workers, while the 1955 hotline has promoted more disputes to be reported. |
