Human Capital is increasingly recognized as an important factor to the economicgrowth.Thispaperestimatesthecontributionofhumancapital investmentthrough educationon Taiwan'seconomic growth.Based on data from 1964 to 1995, an aggregate Cobb-Douglasproductionfunction relating aggregate real output to labor, physical capital, and human capital is estimated. The main findingsare:theelasticityofoutputwithrespecttolabor,physical capital, andhumancapitalare 0.4, 0.6, and1.1 respectively;the rateof returnsfor educationis 0.13, whichincludingspillovereffect0.06, thus spillovereffect is importantto Taiwan's economicgrowth;and the threshold level of education which exerts a significant effect on Taiwan's economic growth is 9 to 10 years. |
